Nobel Prize laureate appointed chair professor at Soochow University
Michael Kosterlitz, a professor at Brown University, USA and winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize in physics, was appointed chair professor by Soochow University on May 21, while Ling Xinsheng, a Chinese-American professor at Brown and a member under China's "Thousand Talents Program", was appointed part-time professor. The two professors also signed contracts with Soochow University on cooperation in establishing a high-grade research institute.
Michael Kosterlitz has been a physics professor at Brown since 1982, mainly doing research on physical topology and condensed matter physics. He won the Nobel Prize in physics together with David J. Thouless and Duncan Haldane on Oct 4, 2016 for their theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter.
