Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Administrative Committee signed a cooperation agreement with the Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on Jan 13. The event symbolizes the official settlement of industrialized project of FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) in SIP.

It’s reported that FPGA is the mainstream supporting technology of next generation intelligent chips and regarded as one of the three universal basic chips, enjoying the same status as CPU and DSP. It has wide applications in national defense, military industry, space flight, aviation, information communication, artificial intelligence and other high-end strategic fields.

Since Yang Haigang, a PhD and expert of “CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program”, joined Institute of Electrics in 2004, the institute has made sustained endeavors on FPGA as a key project for over ten years. Currently it has formed a backbone R&D group of over 60 people, who have mastered the forward FPGA design technologies with fully independent control, developed three kinds of chips for space flight in on-the-track application and laid solid foundation for the industrialization of FPGA chips.

This project will, in the future, release the new generation home-made FPGA products as well as the intelligent brain-like chips to further promote the rapid development of the high-tech chip industry in SIP.
