Local education authority in Suzhou Industrial Park emphasizes science and started a program at the end of 2013, training primary and middle school teachers. "It's urgent to have a qualified teaching team to improve the quality of science education," said Shen Gaoke, Deputy Secretary-General of Science & Technology Coordination Program.

The mission of the program is to promote exchanges, to help teachers with the course design, and to organize training sessions. "There will also be thematic contests and we'll hire experts to give one-on-one consulting," said Shen.

"Science class provides opportunities for students to use both their brains and hands. It also works on improving their willpower," explained Shen. Every teacher of the program gets a tool kit and they will learn first before teaching students. The ultimate goal of the program is to serve students."

The program now has nearly 90 teachers from most of the primary and middle schools in SIP and they are engaged in three projects of smart control machinery, model exploration, and creative innovation. In addition to remote control airplanes, the program also introduces the city's first linear control model planes. To cultivate interest among kids, six teachers volunteer to give theme lectures on popular science and have been popular among primary students.
