On the morning of September 27, an abacus competition was held at Ligongdi in Suzhou Industrial Park. More than a hundred students from Suzhou's six schools joined in the competition.

"The traditional abacus is a tool not only for calculation, but also for improvement in intelligence, concentration and memory," said Jiang Chunlan, an organizer of the abacus competition. "We want to refresh people's memory of abacus, which we learnt in primary school but seldom use today. The abacus is Chinese quintessence and world intangible cultural heritage that should be treasured and carried on."
