Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), the People's Government of Suzhou and SIP Administrative Committee signed a contract on May 12 to jointly establish SJTU (Suzhou) AI Research Institute. The signing ceremony was held at SJTU.

The SJTU (Suzhou) AI Research Institute is jointly initiated by SJTU and Suzhou in the context of rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in China. The construction, which is projected to take five years, will be commenced in May 2017. The institute located in SIP will be engaged in developing advanced AI technologies, introducing private capitals and domestic and overseas talents to promote industrialization of related technologies. In addition, it will cultivate graduate students and industrial professionals, establish industrial organizations and patent center as well as sponsor related seminars and events.
