Kowloon Hospital designated as foodborne disease surveillance sentinel hospital

According to the government notice about the confirmation of the first batch of "Suzhou food safety risk monitoring sub-center and Jiangsu Province foodborne disease surveillance sentinel hospital", Suzhou Kowloon Hospital Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (Kowloon Hospital) has been designated as one of the first foodborne disease surveillance sentinel hospitals in Jiangsu Province. 

To strengthen the control and prevention of epidemic or infectious diseases and virus monitoring, the government has designated a batch of hospitals capable of monitoring, controlling and treating epidemic or infectious diseases as "sentinel hospital".

In order to effectively enhance the construction of the city's food safety risk monitoring network and increase the overall ability and level of food safety risk monitoring in the health and family planning sectors, Suzhou Health and Family Planning Commission (SHFPC) distributed the Notice About Suzhou Food Safety Key Work in 2016 and the Implementation Plan for Suzhou Food Safety Risk Monitoring in 2016.

The official documents are meant to initiate the citywide construction of food safety risk monitoring sub-centers and Jiangsu Province foodborne disease surveillance sentinel hospitals in the city.

On the basis of self evaluation and application, 11 facilities including Kowloon Hospital passed the expert examination organized by SHFPC as qualified facilities.

Four of them were confirmed as Suzhou's first batch of food safety risk monitoring sub-centers, and seven of them as Jiangsu's first batch of foodborne disease surveillance sentinel hospitals, including Kowloon Hospital.
