The 2019 (10th) Lake Cup Regatta (LCR) took place at Jinji Lake, SIP from Oct 11 to 13, gathering over 200 adults and youngsters from home and abroad to compete in the J/80, DC20 and Optimist Class races. Paired with the Suzhou International Lohas Festival, the event became a grand carnival on both water and land.

The annual LCR was initiated by Chen Wangjun, a local sailing enthusiast who proposed a race on Taihu Lake with several of his friends in 2011. The event moved to Jinji Lake the next year and has been increasingly expanded there since then.

“Sailing is an environment-friendly sport and is very popular in western countries. SIP has many foreigners and has been striving for international development. This made it the best place to host the event,” Chen said.
LCR gathers people from different social circles each year, and offers them not only chances to enjoy the fun of sailing and other watersports, but also opportunities to taste delicious food, enjoy art performances and experience local culture.

“It is also helping SIP gain a higher and higher popularity among global tourists,” Chen said.
