ORI Animation, an animation studio started in SIP in 2006, is quickening its pace to go global. It has so far established partnerships with over 600 media and animation studios in more than 70 countries, and opened offices in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Moscow (Russia), London (the United Kingdom) and Los Angeles (the United States) .
ORI Animation started overseas deployment in 2013 when Chinese animation industry was experiencing a tough time. The studio and its partners in Saudi Arabia co-produced an animated TV series “Kong Xiaoxi and Hakim” which tells a story about a Chinese boy and his Saudi Arabian friend who learn more and more about each other’s cultures in the process of looking for Chinese recipes that can help Hakim protect his family-run restaurant from its rival restaurant’s malignant competition. The success of the project laid a good foundation for the studio to further engage in joint production of animated cartoons.

“We are now trying to turn to a new cooperation mode which we call ‘global collaboration’. For example, we have built a team consisting of partners from 12 countries to make the 3D movie ‘Hockey King’. Each of the partners is in charge of part of the movie,” said Zhao Yun, deputy general manager of the studio.

To seek more opportunities for “global collaboration”, ORI Animation is highly motivated to partake in various international events such as the Cannes Film Festival to promote its ideas and works, and has been running a program since 2015 to host the annual “Animation International Cooperation Summit” to offer global animation professionals chances to meet and discuss cooperation.
