Eisai China Inc, a branch of Japanese pharmaceutical company Eisai Co Ltd in SIP, opened its new factory in SIP's Hudong sub-district on Nov 7. The 23,000-square-meter facility is expected to yield 3 billion medicinal preparations plus 5 billion packaging pieces each year, nearly doubling that in the company's old factory in Huxi sub-district.

Eisai Co Ltd, founded in Tokyo, Japan in 1941 with a multitude of offices in Europe, Americas and Asia, specializes in discovery, development and production of drugs in the areas of neurology, gastroenterology and oncology. It set up Eisai China in SIP in 1996 as an arm dedicated to manufacturing and marketing drugs for treatment of neurological, digestive, liver, endocrine, orthopedic and neoplastic diseases.

"The new factory is our biggest manufacturing base across the world. It marks a milestone in our global strategy and will help further stabilize our supply system," said Eisai President and CEO Haruo Naito who, together with his contingent, attended a meeting with SIP Party Working Committee secretary Wu Qingwen and other officials on the same day.
