"SEPG" China 2007 Conference Unveiled in Suzhou
SEPG China 2007 Conference, unveiled at Suzhou Science Park on Dec. 12 under joint sponsorship of Municipal Government of Suzhou and Carnegie Mellon University of USA, attracted over 300 representatives from 130 domestic and overseas enterprises. Mr. Wu Wenyuan, Vice-chairman of Political Consultative Conference of Suzhou Municipality, attended the opening ceremony.
SEPG, short for "software engineering process group", is a famous theme for academic conference series in the field of international software engineering, initiated by Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie Mellon University back in 1988, and it is the second time for Suzhou to host such conferences in China. The theme of the current 3-day conference is "gather strength by improvement, and upgrade engineering and service performance".
International experts from well-known institutes and corporations from USA and Korea and corporate representatives of domestic enterprises, including S. Humphrey, the "father of software quality", delivered speeches and demonstrated the latest achievements in software field.
It is rare for any city to host the SEPG conference twice, either in Europe, Oceania, or Latin America, but Suzhou is an exception. Suzhou has become the third leader after USA and India in the CMMI software quality certification, and surprising achievements have been registered in the last three years in Suzhou. Mr. John Grasso, American Chairman of the conference, expressed the hope that the conference series in China would help Suzhou to improve the evaluation methodology and the quality of software systems.
In rapid development of software industry in Suzhou in recent years, more than 200 enterprises have appeared in SIP for outsourced software, R&D, business process, and designing services, and 12 of them have passed the CMMI certification. According to the Municipal Software Industrial Association, the revenue of exported software in the first quarters of this year has exceeded 700 million US dollars, while the total output value of software industry rose beyond 18 billion RMB.
Prior to the convening of the conference, Mr. Wu Wenyuan met the famous software scientists from Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie Mellon University, and other distinguished experts.
