China-Singapore Science Hub Inaugurated
China-Singapore Science Hub will emerge as a "green and new technological town" in SIP with green and environment-friendly architectural design, advanced equipment for energy conservation and emission control, and blueprint to develop advanced manufacturing industries related to recycling economy. The first phase of the science hub, located on the northern flank of Shuangyang Road, SIP, was inaugurated on Nov. 14, with ceremony button pressed by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong of Singapore and Wang Rong, Executive Member of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, in the presence of Mr. Chin Siat Yoon, Ambassador of Singapore to China, Mr. Chan Hing Wing, Counsel General of Singapore in Shanghai, and other guests. Wang Jinhua, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Secretary of SIP Party Working Committee, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.
China-Singapore Science, located in north SIP, 14 kilometers from downtown Suzhou, on the northern flank of Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, and adjoining Yangcheng Lake Tourism and Vacation Zone in the north, occupies a planned area of 4 square kilometers and population of 30,000. China-Singapore SIP Development Co., Ltd. (CSSD) is given charge of the development and construction, with the first phase started up in April 2006, and by now, a total of 1.2 billion RMB has been invested in the project. The science hub is spread along both sides of Shuangyang Road, with industrial workshops and backup facilities on the southern flank, and R&D, residences, commercial and public utilities (research office buildings, schools, neighborhood center, etc.) on the north. The start-up area currently opened for use is part of the northern compounds.
China-Singapore Science Hub is being built into an intelligent hi-tech sub-zone featuring "green energy-saving and environment-friendly" concept through three measures, namely, green architectural design, application of energy conservation and emission control equipment, and recycled economy. Good ventilation and sun-shading panels reduce the temperature of buildings, and roofs are covered with non-earthen glass lawns. Heat-insulating materials are applied on the outer walls, and lighting system is controlled by centralized intelligent LCD units, while underground car parks and lawns rely on solar-generated electricity for lighting. The concept of green environmental protection is also followed in the industrial policies. The hub encourages the entry of internationalized testing and authentication, training, and notary, and pollution-free projects with high added values and low energy consumption, such as electronics and information, biopharmaceutical, and nanotech industries. In the current SIP campaign to build a resource-saving and environment-friendly demonstration park, the science hub will emerge as a highlight.
After the inauguration ceremony, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and other guests from Singapore, accompanied by Wang Rong and other leaders, visited the exhibition hall on ecological park, and were impressed by the progress in eco-environmental protection and construction, energy conservation and emission control, and recycled economy in SIP.
