USTC Software College Unveiled at Dushu Lake
Software College of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the training base for software talents jointly established by USTC and Sipac, was formally unveiled at Dushu Lake Higher Education Town, SIP, on Oct. 28. The student body of the school will grow to 3,000 by the year 2010. The unveiling ceremony was attended by Yan Li, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Suzhou, Zhu Qingshi, President of USTC, Wang Jinhua, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Secretary of SIP Party Working Committee, and Hou Jianguo, Executive Vice-president of USTC.
USTC, one the earliest well-known universities to enter into all-round cooperation with Suzhou Municipal Government, established Suzhou Postgraduate School of USTC several years ago at Dushu Lake Higher Education Town. In recent years, software industry has risen as a leading industry of strategic importance in Suzhou, but its development is hampered by acute shortage of software talents. The founding of the software college will effectively meet the demands for software talents.
According to the president of the software college, the school will launch full-time university and high-level training programs in software education to serve the needs in Suzhou and the rest of the Yangtze delta region.
