3-Km Electric Cable to Thrust Lake Bottom
Power Supply Department started electrical installation engineering on July 19 in the Jinji Lake tunnel, a crucial part of the eastern extension of south ring road.
The extended section of south ring road, consisting of an overpass and tunnel and measuring 7.37 kilometers, is intended to smooth the traffic between the old city proper and SIP.
The tunnel is the first ever built in the history of urban construction of Suzhou. The tunnel itself, 3.46 kilometers in length, is currently the longest of all urban lake tunnels in China. The tunnel under Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing is 2.66 km, and that under the West Lake of Hangzhou 1,280 meters. The construction of the Jinji Lake tunnel began on May 12, 2006, and is scheduled to complete by September this year, which leaves little time for the installation of electrical facilities.
The power installation team is now faced with an urgent task that is to be completed by Aug. 5. Within half month, the 3.46-km-long cable laying, plus 3 power regulating stations, must be completed so that the whole project can be celebrated by Oct. 1 National Day.
