Xi'an Jiaotong University Graduate School Extends Regional Education
Compal Electronics Company and Xi'an Jiaotong University Graduate School signed an agreement on joint modern tele-education project on July 18 in Kunshan, setting the precedent of cooperation between Taiwan-invested enterprises and tertiary institutions in running network schools. Compal has always adhered to the principle of "repect for humans" in training potential talents with spare-time continuing education platform for its employees.
The professional management team and strong capability in research and development have earned Compal the reputation of being an internationally known manufacturer of computers and IT products. In 2003, Compal was awarded the title of the 7th "Best Managed Company" and the 8th "Best Governance" in the Taiwan region by Finance Asia (HK). In 2004, US Business Weekly put Compal at the 15th place among the top 100 technological enterprises in the world.
Based on the business concept of "catch-ups, sincerity, and harmony" and by tapping the ingenuity of the employees, Compal has won the trust of customers and raised its production to 16 million units annually in 2006. To provide employees with a better environment of work and study, Compal joined hands with Xi’an Jiaotong University in setting up college certificate programs for employees in computer science and technology and business administration. Those enrolled to the programs will be offered the learning forms of teaching materials, network discussions, homework, self-examination, and on-spot coaching, and upon completion of the required courses, the students will be conferred with graduation certificates of Xi'an Jiaotong University (marked with "network education").
Xi'an Jiaotong University, a major national university directly under Ministry of Education, was founded in 1896 in Shanghai, acquired its present name in 1921, and moved to Xi'an in 1956. Presently the university is one the 9 universities in the "211 projects". Science and technology are the features of the school, with majors in liberal arts, medicine, and business management. The university began its presence in Dushu Lake Higher Education Town in March 2003 with a research institute as its management organ for cooperation with manufacturers and in training and research in the Suzhou and Yangtze delta regions.
Present at the inauguration ceremony of college programs in Kunshan were: attended by Zhang Guohua, Secretary of CPC Kunshan City Committee, Gu Jianyu, Executive Member of CPC Kunshan City Committee and Deputy Secretary of Development Zone, Zhang Xueqiao, Director of Kunshan City Bureau of Education, Yu Dalin, Director of Personnel Bureau, Ge Xiaohua, Vice-director of Personnel Bureau, Lu Zongyuan, Director of Kunshan Export Processing Zone Administrative Committee, Xuan Binglong, Vice-chairman of Suzhou Municipal Political Consultative Conference, Zheng Qinghua, President of Network College of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Wu Jun, President of Suzhou Research institute of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Chen Ruilian, General Manager of Compal Group, Chen Guochuan, Deputy General Manager of Compal (Kunshan) Co., Luo Sen, Senior Deputy GM, Xu Mingxing and Zhang Mingzhi, Deputy GMs, and managers from the various Compal plants, etc.
Compal and Xi'an Jiaotong University have agreed to unfold more in-depth cooperation in training and technological research in the future.
