Samsung Adds 1 Billion RMB to Boost LCD Production Line in China
The expansion project in LCD production was started up on March 1 at Samsung facility in Suzhou with an additional investment of 1 billion RMB. The second factory is expected to complete in July this year, and by then, the monthly output of LCD panels will reach 5 million.
Samsung began LCD R&D and manufacturing over ten years ago in 1991, and has now risen to be the largest global manufacturer of LCD, ranking the very first in sales revenue for 5 consecutive years. The company hit the record high of USD 14.8 billion in LCD sales in 2006, with an increase of 33% over the previous year.
Suzhou Samsung LCD Co., Ltd. was founded by Korean Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. in SIP in 2002 for production, sales and post-sale service of TFT-LCD. The company announced its expansion plan for larger sizes of TFT-LCD module units production for TV sets, which added up to a total investment of 473 million US dollars with 190 million US dollars in registered capital.
At the ground Breaking ceremony, the general manager of Samsung Suzhou plant said that the second factory, the second leap forward in market development in China, was aimed to meet the daily-growing market demands and to reinforce the competitiveness of Samsung at LCD market. Market statistics indicate that the increase rate of sales of LCD TV sets in China had surpassed that of foreign countries, and the fast growth of demands would continue its momentum in the next few years.
