Swiss Chocolate Tycoon Settles Down in SIP
Barry Callebaut of Switzerland, the global tycoon of chocolate production that claims 15% of the world’s coco market share, held the foundation laying ceremony in SIP on Nov. 28 for the newly incorporated Barry Callebaut (Suzhou) Chocolate Co., Ltd. It is the first time Barry Callebaut ever set up a production facility in China.
Barry Callebaut Corporation was founded in 1996 by reorganizing the French-owned cocoBarry and the Belgium-owned Callebaut companies into a Swiss listed company to make coco and chocolate products in 1,650 recipes. Its production and sales network is spread across the world to serve food-processing manufacturers and specialized wholesalers and retailers in the whole food industry. The annual production capacity of Barry Bellacaut (Suzhou) Chocolate Co., Ltd. is estimated at 25,000 tons of chocolate after official operation in 2008.
