South Ring Road Tunnel Construction Begins Last 100-day Dash
As the schedule has been set for the extension project of South Ring Road bridge and tunnel, the construction command held a meeting on Nov. 7 to mobilize mass efforts to complete the main project of tunnel before the Spring Festival.
The extension project of South Ring Road consists of two sections: the overpass bridge and tunnel. Since the beginning of the construction in July, work has been completed in damming drainage in Dushu Lake, pile driving for the dam and tunnel, earth digging, and bridge piers construction. The 100 days from Nov. 7 to Feb. 15, 2007 will a crucial period for the project.
The extension of South Ring Road consists of 3.46-km tunnel and 3.43-km bridge, with a total distance of 7.3 kilometers, which is the longest urban under-lake tunnel in China. A complex engineering process is involved in the tunnel construction, and upon completion, there will be back filling of earth and water, decoration, installation, and landscaping, etc.
