Wen Jiabao Meets Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore

Premier Wen Jiabao says that China has always attached vital importance to China-Singapore relations and is ready to make concerted efforts with Signapore to push forward the sustained, healthy, and steady development of the relations between the two countries.

Wen points out that Singapore is the biggest trade partner of China within ASEAN, and the bilateral cooperation has yielded fruitful results. Wen says that the two countries should continue to explore and innovate new ways of cooperation and raise the level of cooperation. He hopes that the two sides will carry on the successful cooperation in the project of Suzhou Industrial Park, and that China welcomes Singapore to participate in economic cooperation with the coastal and hinterland regions of China.

Lee Hsien Loong says that Singapore and China have achieved tangible progress in developing the bilateral relations, and the two sides are engaged in smooth cooperation in major economic and trade projects, especially, efficient support of the Chinese side for the project of Suzhou Industrial Park has demonstrated China's enthusiasm in promoting the economic and trade relations between the two countries. He says that Singapore will continue to expand the bilateral cooperation and take an active part in the development and construction of China and in pushing forward the relation of cooperation.

Lee also expresses that Singapore hopes to reinforce its cooperation with China in fighting against pirates and safeguarding maritime security.

Both sides expresses willingness to speed up the course of negotiation on China-Singapore free trade zones within the framework of China-ASEAN free trade zones.

Lee Hsien Loong arrived in Nanning on the morning of Oct. 29, and during his stay there, he visited Guangzhou of Guangdong Province and Chengdu of Sichuan Province.
