Chinese Film Festival to Locate in Suzhou Next Year
The 15th China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival came to a successful conclusion in Hangzhou on Oct. 28. At the press release of the film festival, China Film Artists' Association announced that, after field surveys and friendly consultations with Suzhou government authorities, the association had decided to give Suzhou the sponsorship of the 16th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival next year, and that a permanent base would be located in Suzhou for the evaluation of the festival awards. Zhou Weiqiang, Vice-mayor of Suzhou attended the press release, and at the closing ceremony on the same evening, received the festival flag from Wu Yigong, Chairman of China Film Artists' Association.
Speaking at the press release, Vice-mayor Zhou Weiqiang pledged that the people of Suzhou were ready to contribute to the development of Chinese films and to run the 16th film festival into the best in the history of Chinese films with full confidence.
The Golden Rooster Award for Chinese films was founded in 1981 by Chinese Film Artists' Association, originally as an annual event but changed into a bi-annual from 2005. The authenticity, strict procedure, and academic standard of evaluation by the committee have made the awards “experts' awards” with widespread influence.
According to Vice-mayor Zhou Weiqiang, the facilities fro evaluation base will be built by the Jinji Lake (Golden Rooster Lake) of Suzhou, which include standard film projection halls, working and living accommodations for evaluation committee members, a lakeside park with an area of 50,000m2, a permanent video exhibition hall for Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Awards, and the water-bound "Star Road", etc.
