The Grand Opening of China Suzhou eMEX 2006
The morning of Oct. 18 saw the grand opening of eMEX 2006 at Suzhou International Expo Center. 512 IT manufacturers from China and abroad gathered for the 4-day event, the topmost IT exposition in China with new scale and array of exhibitors. The 1,622 exhibition stands demonstrate the latest results of the modern IT development and share the great business opportunities and exchanges.
The eMEX 2006 is jointly sponsored by Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Information Industry, the State Council Office for Taiwan Affairs, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, the People's Government of Suzhou Municipality, Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Foreign Economy and Trade, Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Information Industry, and Jiangsu Provincial Office for Taiwan Affairs. The eMEX Suzhou has been expanding in terms of scale over the event of the previous 4 years, thanks to the superior IT industry of the Yangtze delta region. This year's exposition, under the slogan of "world reputation, international participation, China's No.1, and citizens' festival", has made a record high in the number of exhibitors, booths, and the extent of international scope, and become the a truly No.1 IT exposition in mainland China.
The exhibition space of the current eMEX exceeded 35,000m2 embracing three halls with 5 sections, namely, digital life, semiconductor, circuit and electronic assembling, software and information service, and technical equipment service, which display thousands of products. The expo is mainly a gathering of IT manufacturers, backed up with symposiums, new product release, economic and trade talks to give exhibitors and visitors an all-round platform of exchange, information, procurement, sales, and cooperation.
Present at the opening ceremony were: Lou Qinjian, Vice Minister of Information Industry, Ye Kedong, Vice-director of State Council Office for Taiwan Affairs, Wang Rong, Member of Standing Committee of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of Suzhou Municipal Party Committee, Zhang Weiguo, Vice-governor of Jiangsu Province, Huang Chong-ren, Secretary-general of Taipei Computer Enterprises Association, Yu Gang, Global Vice-president of Dell Corporation, Hua Zhinian, Vice-president of Digital China, and Deputy Mayor of Hitachi City, Japan, etc. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mayor Yan Li of Suzhou, and the distinguished guests unveiled the show at 11:15 AM by pushing the lever together to activate fireworks and sending color balloons to the sky.
Wang Rong made a welcome speech at first, expressing warm welcome to the guests and all the exhibitors on behalf of the 6 million people of Suzhou. He told the audience that at present, Suzhou has become the home of over 10,000 foreign-invested enterprises and those invested by Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, and 107 out of the Fortune-500 have entered Suzhou. The new and hi-tech industry, with IT industry in the lead, has become the foremost pillar industry in Suzhou. Wang pledged to further improve the working and living environment for hi-tech talents and make Suzhou the most cost-effective "basin" for business operation, the "fortune spot" for investors, and the "highland of concentration" for IT talents.
Vice-governor Zhang Weiguo extended warm congratulations to the opening of eMEX on behalf of Jiangsu Province, saying that Jiangsu was one of the fastest growing provinces in China with powerful economic strength and potential, and Suzhou has grown into a major manufacturing and export base of IT products in China under the strategic planning of the provincial authorities. He told the guests that Jiangsu Province and Suzhou Municipality would strive to run the eMEX even better with each passing year and make Jiangsu the ideal paradise for investment trade for global IT enterprises.
Vice-minister Wei Jianguo expressed warm congratulations on the opening of eMEX on behalf of the organizing committee. He said that in the accelerated economic globalization, international manufacturing, especially IT industry, is being transferred to China at quickened pace, and it is imperative to grasp this opportunity to improve our level of opening up and to speed up the structural readjustment and industrial upgrading. The previous 4 eMEX events have proved to be a high-standard professional exposition with widespread influence on the domestic and overseas IT manufacturing. He expressed that Ministry of Commerce, along with Ministry of Information Industry, State Council Office for Taiwan Affairs, and Jiangsu Provincial Government, would give full support to eMEX Suzhou and make it a spur on China's IT industry and the export of IT products from China.
Also present at the opening ceremony were 2,000 guests, including responsible members from State and provincial departments, officials from foreign consulates general in Shanghai, experts and professors from domestic universities and scientific research institutes, and representatives from well-known multinational corporations, businesses and industrial enterprises.
The municipal leaders present at the ceremony were: Du Guoling, Zhou Fuyuan, Feng Ruidu, Zhou Weiqiang, Wang Shaodong, Xiao Hantao, Wang Guoxing, Song Shenglong, Wu Wenyuan, Zhao Junsheng, and Cai Jinghao, etc.
After the opening ceremony, Wei Jianguo, Lou Qinjian, Ye kedong, Wang Rong, Zhang Weiguo, and Yan Li visited the exhibition halls with keen interest.
