SIP Textile Industry Gathers Fresh Momentum
A grand opening ceremony on Sept 21 proclaimed the operation commencement of Glen Raven Textile Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. at No.8 Meiyi Street, Suhong Rd., SIP. Present at the opening ceremony were over 150 attendees, including Mr. Allen Gant, CEO of Glen Raven Group and Chairman of US Textile Association, Vice-mayor Zhou Weiqiang, senior managers of Glen Raven Group, representatives of SIP government departments, customers and suppliers.
Glen Raven Corporation, based in B**, North Carolina, is a 127-year-old manufacturer of textile fabrics, used in parasols, sails, convertible vehicle tops, boat coverings, and woven materials for outdoor ad and furniture, in the world-famous “Sunbrella” brand and sold across the world. Glen Raven has subsidiaries and plants in Europe, America, and Asia with a total of 1,800 employees, and Glen Raven Textile Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. is the first of its wholly owned subsidiary in Asia with a total investment of US$40 million and 300 employees. The Suzhou plant is planned to become the future R&D, production, supply and sales center in the Asian-Pacific region.
CEO Allen Gant in his speech gave high praises for the safe completion of the project, and congratulated the Suzhou plant for its operation commencement. He stressed the support of the Group HQ for Suzhou project and the confidence in the future development. Vice-mayor Zhou also spoke at the ceremony, expressing thanks for Glen Raven's support for the development of SIP. After the ceremony, the guests were shown around the workshops.
Presently, nearly ten textile-related enterprises have entered SIP, such as Saura of Switzerland, Piconol of Belgium, Ramatex of Malaysia, GPI of USA, Saint Gobain, DelStar, FMMG, etc. A Textile industrial chain is initially taking shape, from the production of fabrics and machinery production and maintenance service. The entry of Glen Raven now brings into SIP advanced weaving technology and managerial experience, which will promote the further growth of textile industry effectively in SIP.
