CAS and Jiangsu to Jointly Build
Nanotechnology and Nanofabrication Research Institute
On Sept 18, China Academy of Sciences (CAS), Jiangsu Provincial Government, and Suzhou Municipal Government signed an agreement on the joint construction of CAS Suzhou Nanotechnology and Nanofabrication Research Institute in Suzhou.
Attendees at the signing ceremony included Lu Yongxiang, Vice-chairman of Standing Committee of National People's Congress and President of CAS, Liang Baohua, Governor of Jiangsu Province, Yan Li, Mayor of Suzhou, who signed the agreement on behalf of the three sides. Also present at the ceremony were She Erwei, Vice-president of CAS and Wang Rong, Member of Standing Committee of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of Suzhou Municipal Party Committee. Zhang Taolin, Deputy Governor of Jiangsu, presided over the signing ceremony.
CAS Suzhou Nanotechnology Reseach Institute is a newly established national-level scientific research institute with main focus on nanotech and nanofabrication reseaches and the training of nanotech specialists. According to the agreement, the institute will carry out basic and application researches in the frontline fields of nanotech materials and tools, nanobiological technology and medicine, nanofabrication, and nanobiological safety, etc. in the light of national strategic requirement and future industrial development and by consistent technological innovation with the aim to foster new industrial growth.
At the signing ceremony, Lu Yongxiang spoke on behalf of CAS and expressed thanks for the support of Jiangsu provincial government and Suzhou municipal government in preparation of the institute. He says that the cooperation with the provincial and municipal authorities is a correct strategic decision and a demonstration of the determination of the province and municipality in pushing forward technological innovation, and the act will effectively uplift the capabilities of independent innovation and promote the economic restructuring and coordinated social and economic development in Suzhou and Jiangsu Province.
Lu Yongxiang gave high appraisal on the long-term relations of cooperation with Jiangsu and Suzhou, and believed that the joint efforts will lead to a first-class and well-manged research institute satisfactory to both the government and citizens.
Governor Liang Baohua expressed congratulations on the official start of the project, and thanked CAS for the care and support for the economic and social development of Jiangsu Province in the past years. He says that over the years, there have been over 800 projects of cooperation between the province and CAS, and more than 300 of them have been turned into industrial production. He believed that the establishment of the nanotech institute will speed up the formation of technological innovation system and the industrial development of modern manufacturing and hi-tech industries.
Liang Baohua says that Suzhou Nanotechnology Research Institute is a major project of technological innovation and industrialization in the “11th 5-year plan” and a new stage of cooperation between the province and CAS, and he hopes that the institute will be built as a new platform for nanotech innovation and nanotech industrial development with brand-new management mechanism and excellent economic results.
Wang Rong, Member of Standing Committee of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of Suzhou Municipal Party Committee, also delivered a speech at the ceremony.
After the signing of agreement, the institute held a foundation laying ceremong at Suzhou Industrial Park, and Lu Yongxiang and Liang Baohua personally unveiled the foundation stone and shoveled earth to lay the foundation.
Lu Yongxiang, Liang Baohua, and other leaders then inspected the temporary office of CAS Suzhou Nanotechnology Research Institute and paid respect to the research and construction teams there.
