Spansion Sets up Suzhou Designing Center in Global Strategy
Spansion Suzhou, the world-famous company for flash memory solutions, announced on Aug. 4 that it was going to establish a new IC designing center in Suzhou as a step to expand its global R&D network.
The new designing center will be located in the near vicinity of the host of electronic products manufacturers and the Spansion Suzhou facility in SIP, an advantageous position for soliciting opinions from the local experts and responding to the ever-growing demands at Asian market for Mirror Bit and Logic-on-Flash solutions of the company.
A Spansion spokesman introduced that the Suzhou designing center was one of the 8 major designing centers of the corporation, and part of the strategic expansion of Spansion's global R&D network.
Mr. Bertrand Cambou said that the Suzhou designing center would enable Spansion to respond fast and efficiently to the various changes in the consumption electronic product market in Asia and to make corresponding decisions. The presence of large numbers of hardware and software suppliers and end users in Suzhou makes it possible for the company to reduce the cost and shorten the cycle of development and research by a big margin, and to provide more advanced and specially-geared products to the various companies with high values.
The initial scale of the designing center will be composed of a 10-engineer R&D team for MirrorBit flash memory chip and solutions of system-on-chip, and within 3 years, the center will grow to 50 engineers with added systems and software resources. The all-round operation will start by mid-2007.
Pern Shaw, with 30 years' experience in IC designing and management, will take up the leading position at the center. He used to work as superintendent of a similar designing center of Motorola in Suzhou.
