HK University Study Now Available in Suzhou

HKU Space Global College of Suzhou, a joint venture of HK University, Suzhou Technology Institute, and GEM Group in Dushu Lake Higher Education Town, SIP, launched a study program of "2 year at Space College + 2 years overseas" in October 2004, and the first batch of some 20 students were given this brand new study opportunity. By July 4, the college started up construction of a new campus, with the presence of Wang Jinhua, Member of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Secretary of SIP Party Working Committee, and Zhu Yongxin, Vice-mayor of Suzhou, at the celebration ceremony.

HKU Space Global College of Suzhou is the first institution of higher learning established through cooperation between Hong Kong and the hinterland with the new mode "one major, tow certificates, and three-fold recognition". The curricula opened so far are business administration, international accounting, international logistics, and information science and technology. The curriculum is based on the officially required basic subjects in combination with those for secondary bachelor lessons at HK University. Upon completion of the 3-year study at the college, the student will be conferred with two certificates, one for secondary college graduate in Mainland China, and the other for secondary bachelor issued by HK University. In some majors, the graduates will obtain related qualification certificate from international associations. The "2+2" study program is conducted fully in English language, and after two years’ study in Suzhou, the students may apply for related curriculum at some dozen universities in UK, Australia, and USA to acquire bachelor degrees.

The new campus being built covers a constructed area of 70,000 square meters, and will accommodate 6,000 students when completed. The first phase of constructed area will measure some 40,000 square meters, to be put in use by the middle of 2007.
