Wang Rong Meets CIO of Boeing
Wang Rong, Member of Standing Committee of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of Suzhou Municipal Party Committee, Yan Li, Mayor of Suzhou, and Wang Jinhua, Member of Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of SIP Party Working Committee, met Mr. Scott Griffin, CIO of Boeing, and his entourage on June 29.
Wang Rong expressed warm welcome to the senior delegation of Boeing for their visit to Suzhou, and told the guests that Suzhou had risen steadily to prominence among the large and medium-sized cities in China as the result of fast economic and social progress in the reform and opening up of the past twenty years, and that Suzhou was now focused on speeding up the development of software and service industries rather than the growth of industrial economic volume. He pointed out that according to the “eleventh 5-year plan” of Suzhou, the city was to achieve 1 billion US dollar software export volume by the year 2010, and the visit of Boeing would be an impetus to that aim through further readjustment of industrial structure in Suzhou.
Mr. Scott Griffin, CIO of Boeing, recalled that Boeing started cooperation with China in 1972, and the current cooperation in the field of software industry is a successful continuation of the past efforts. He said that since Boeing was a global enterprise, its software should be globalized, and that Boeing was not merely seeking a supplier by selecting an overseas software company, but a partner of long-term cooperation. He said that the rich historical and cultural tradition, and the intellectual quality of Suzhou had given Boeing full confidence in the cooperation.
