Fortune-500 MTU Opens Phase-2 New Plant
MTU of Germany, a major manufacturer of diesel engines and power systems for ships and heavy-duty vehicles in the world, opens its new plant for the assembling of MTU2000 series of engines in Suzhou.
For the past 40 years, MTU has been selling engines in China. MTU Engineering (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. was incorporated in SIP in 1996 as a wholly owned subsidiary of MTU Asian (Pte) Limited to support the sales and customer service in China. The opening of the new plant now extended the operation to assembling and packaging of MTU products, and several engines will be assembled annually by estimation. Mr. Volker Heuer, President and CEO of MTU Corporation, said: "It is another decisive milestone in the globalization of our corporation to focus on the growth in China."
The engines to be assembled in Suzhou will include those of MTU series with 12, 16, and 18 cylinders, and about 30% of the parts will be supplied locally from a engine parts supply platform in China so as to shorten the delivery time. Apart from engine assembling, testing and equipment maintenance in Suzhou plant, MTU facility in Suzhou also includes an integrated maintenance shop, a training center, accessory warehouse, and related logistic department.
