SIP Science Hub Gets Underway

Foundation was laid on the morning of April 16 SIP Science Hub, a project undertaken by CSSD as another carrier of technological innovation after the SIP Bionanotech Park and Conceptual Industrial Park. At the construction commencement ceremony, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong of Singapore and Wang Rong, Member of Standing Committee of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of Suzhou Municipal Party Committee, activated the remote control together to start up the construction. Yan Li, Deputy Secretary of Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Suzhou, delivered an opening speech at the ceremony.

At the grand construction commencement ceremony on 16th, the moment Goh Chok Tong and Wang Rong put their hands on the magic ball, a beam of laser light flashed past and the curtain behind the rostrum slowly opened to reveal the construction site. Amidst the roaring sound of pile driving, colorful balloons and firework ascended the sky. As Goh Chok Tong, Wang Rong, and other leaders laid the foundation for SIP Science Hub, thunderous applause resounded at the rally site.

Yan Li points out in his speech that SIP has maintained sustained fast growth in the past dozen years, and this is the result of the full cooperation and painstaking management by the two sides of China and Singapore. The personal presence of Goh Chok Tong at the ceremony for SIP Science Hub is a great inspiration and support for SIP and CSSD. Yan expresses the hope that CSSD will seize the opportunity of SIP development and give full play to the unique superiority of China-Singapore cooperation in building up a world-class science hub, a “park inside the park”, and contributing further to the internationalization of SIP. The municipal Party committee and government of Suzhou will further enhance the cooperation and exchange with Singapore, give consistent support for the development of SIP and CSSD, explore new forms of China-Singapore cooperation, and consolidate and sustain the achievements of the cooperation.

CSSD is the carrier of China-Singapore cooperation and main entity for SIP development, jointly invested by China Consortium, Singapore Consortium, HK China Investment Co., Ltd., PWD Corp. Group Pte. Co., Ltd., SND Hi-tech Industries Stock Co., Ltd. Its core business is land development, real estate development, public utilities, and specialized services. SIP Science Hub, developed by CSSD, is located in the northern part of SIP, on the northern side of Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway and on the southern fringe of Yangcheng Lake Tourism and Vacation Zone. It is planned as a hi-tech industrial park combining the functions of manufacturing, R&D, living, and commerce. The planned area is 4 square kilometers with a population of 30,000. CSSD plans to complete the development of infrastructure in 2 year, land for industrial research and development in 3 years, and land for commercial purposes in 5 years. At present, the project of SIP Science Hub has been listed as a major engineering project for the benefit of people of Suzhou.

The science hub, upon completion will feature first-rate infrastructure, convenient transportation network, high-level regional planning and excellent ecological environment. The area will enjoy most competitive and preferential tax policies and pro-business services, and become a place of clustering for world hi-tech and ventures for senior and intermediate talents.

Present at the commencement ceremony were Lin Hwee Hua, Minister of State for Finance and Communication of Singapore, Chin Siat Yoon, Singapore Ambassador to China, Chng Hee Kok, Member of Singapore Parliament, Chia Tuck Keong, Consul General of Singapore in Shanghai, Fu Xuezhang, former Chinese ambassador to Singapore, and municipal leaders Wang Jinhua and Wang Shaodong, etc.
