Foundation Laid for Black & Decker Phase Two
The foundation was laid on March 29 for the Phase-II 20,000-square-meter plant of Black & Decker in the SIP Export and Processing Zone, whose completion will raise the output of power tools of all types to 25 million a year.
Founded in 1910, Black & Decker Group has now risen as the largest global manufacturer and sales distributor of power tools, with production bases set up in 10 countries and products and service available in more than a hundred countries. Apart from the traditional industrial and household power tools, the company also manufactures and sells hardware tools for security purposes and hi-tech series of fasteners.
Black & Decker decided to build its Asian manufacturing base in Suzhou Industrial Park back in 1995, and in the same year established Black & Decker (Suzhou) Power Tool Co., Ltd. In 2001, the Black & Decker established R&D center in Suzhou plant to boost its competitiveness and sustainable growth, making the Suzhou plant a manufacturing and R&D base in Asia. Black & Decker Suzhou hit the record high in output, revenue and profit in the history of Black & Decker and became the largest manufacturing plant of the whole Group, the largest power tool manufacturer in China, and one of the top 200 exporters of China. In 2004, the plant moved into a new plant in SIP Export and Processing Zone, which covered an area of 30,000 square meters, to ensure sustained expansion of production without interrupting normal operation. The current Phase-II construction will further raise its production capacity and technological level.
