Southeast University and Suzhou Form Strategic Partership
The signing of "Agreement on All-round Cooperation Between Southeast University and Suzhou" marks the formal establishment of Research Institute of Southeast University in Suzhou, a cooperation between the university and Suzhou of strategic significance. Wang Rong, Member of Standing Committee of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, and Hu Lingyun, Secretary of Party Committee of Southeast University, raised the curtain over the signboard for the Research Institute at the ceremony on Oct. 22, and Gu Guanqun, President of Southeast University and Chairman of Provincial Scientific Association, and Yan Li, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Suzhou, signed the cooperation agreement respectively on behalf of the university and the municipality.
Southeast University is a key university jointly established by Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Provincial Government. The signing of the cooperation agreement and the establishment of the research institute will exert positive influence on the exploration of cooperation mode between universities and cities, and in accelerating the transfer of scientific research results and the new and hi-tech industrialization. In his speech at the ceremony, Yan Li pointed out that talents and technology are issues of great concern in Suzhou, and that the cooperation was needed by the university in extending education and reinforcing the capacity of scientific search on the one hand, and required by Suzhou in training high-level technicians and raise the comprehensive strength of the city on the other.
A leading group for cooperation will be organized as per the agreement, and the office under the group will be formed by representatives of both sides to handle matters concerning the cooperation. The jointly-run research institute of Southeast University, to be located in the base in Dushu Higher Education Zone in SIP, will conduct senior postgraduate programs, non-diploma teaching programs, different types of research courses, and training courses for enterprise managerial personnel. The two parties will also jointly set up specialized key labs and engineering centers of ministerial and provincial levels in the campus. By and large, the university will extend its major labs to the Suzhou institute to encourage transfer and industrialization of major research projects in Suzhou. The municipal authorities have pledged support for such operations by allocating special funds and hi-tech risk funds. Besides, the two parties will carry out research on the development strategy of the Suzhou area to provide consultancy for urban construction and economic growth of Suzhou.
Also present at the ceremonies and discussions on that day were Wang Jinhua, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Secretary of SIP Party Working Committee, Wang Shaodong, Member of Standing Committee and Secretary-general of Municipal Party Committee, Zhu Yongxin, Vice Mayor of Suzhou, and Hu Minqiang, Vice President of Southeast University and concurrently President of Postgraduate School.
