A donation meeting was held in Sipac building on the afternoon of Sept. by SIP Committee for Care of Younger Generation, at which the 18 newly enrolled college students in financial difficulties from Loufeng, Shengpu, and Weiting Townships, SIP, received a subsidy of 2,000 yuan RMB each before going to their respective schools. The subsidy will enable the students to start up their study in universities in Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Yangzhou, and other cities.
The speedy development and consistent social progress in SIP in the past ten years have resulted in general improvement of the standard of living among the citizens of SIP. However, for varying reasons, there are a number of poverty-stricken students who call for help in their life and study. SIP Working Committee for Care of Younger Generation is a mass organization chiefly composed of retired government cadres, and its mission is to help with the education of younger generation both financially and ideologically. Over the years, the committee has launched activities of showing loving care for poverty-stricken students by raising funds from among the enterprises and individuals in SIP, with focus on students during the 9-year compulsory education period. With elapse of time and increased funds available, the scope of support is extended to senior middle school students and some college students. The current donation is organized by the committee for the first time to render assistance to college students under the support of SIP Party and government.
At the donation meeting, the students felt deeply moved by the care of the government, and expressed determination to study hard to prove worthy of the support by the people and government of SIP, and to master knowledge so as to repay the society and homeland.
